Discover how you can get involved!

Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village offers fulfilling volunteer experiences for all ages and interests. We frequently work with seniors, corporate groups, scouts, and students.

Volunteer opportunities are available in the areas listed below. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please fill out our Volunteer Application and forward it to volunteers@bnhv.org. Our Volunteer Department will be in touch as soon as possible to discuss your interests.

Museum Store volunteers handle transactions, assist customers with choosing merchandise, create rotating merchandise displays, and assist the Guest Services Coordinator in highlighting seasonal products. Volunteers must be available on Saturdays.

Groundskeeping volunteers help to maintain the grounds and gardens of Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, under the supervision of the Maintenance Technician. These volunteers cut grass and weeds, help to maintain the gardens, clear paths, and perform other duties as needed.

Docents give immersive tours to visitors of all ages, including school children. Utilizing the techniques of dialogue and storytelling, docents encourage visitors to become familiar with history, and inspire them to explore Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village.

Village Preservation volunteers make sure the buildings in our Historic Village are maintained throughout the Village Season. Volunteers assist with cleaning, tidying, and light preservation work. All volunteers must go through an orientation and training prior to start.

Demonstration volunteers offer demonstrations of historic skills, crafts, and trades to Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village visitors. These volunteers not only practice their craft, but also interact with visitors to teach them about the skills required in the 19th century.

Demonstration subject to approval.

Programming volunteers assist with the development and implementation of various educational programming efforts, specifically the Homeschool Program and Summer Camp Program. These volunteers help lead workshops, lessons, and activities for groups of children aged 3 - 18, as well as assisting the Director of Education and Programs with developing new initiatives.

Background check required.
