ABOUT HELMETS TO HIVES:
BNHV’s Helmets to Hives Beekeeping Program began in 2017 when Vietnam veteran, Steve Krumm, and BNHV partnered to provide an opportunity for veterans to learn beekeeping.
Studies have shown that beekeeping has been extremely therapeutic in the treatment of post-traumatic-stress disorder. The intense focus and concentration required in beekeeping can often help to quell some of the stress and anxiety associated with PTSD.
In 2018, the program was opened to non-veterans as well. By involving veterans and the civilian population, the program provides for a better climate of readjustment for the veteran.
The following year Veterans One-Stop Center of Western New York expressed interest in becoming involved as well. Together BNHV and Veterans One-Stop Center of Western New York, facilitate the beekeeping program at BNHV. Veterans One-Stop Center manages the Helmets to Hives portion of the program while Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village manages the civilian portion of the program.

For the safety of our guests and resident farm animals, dogs and other pets are not permitted. Service animals are welcome.
