Join us for a Lecture: Saturday, September 12th!
Join Hope L. Russell, Ph.D. at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village for a lecture on Niagara Falls history. This lecture will explore the history of the North End in Niagara Falls, New York. Prior to its incorporation as Suspension Bridge Village, and, later, the City of Niagara Falls, this region consisted largely as woods and undeveloped land that European American settlers viewed as rich with possibility. As the area evolved into a major railroad center, farmland and farmhouses gradually gave way to homes, businesses, and factories. Underlying this transformation is the story of the Niagara River, hydroelectric power, and the world’s first International Suspension Bridge, which helped establish the region into a center of tourism and industrial commerce while also serving as a vital crossing point for enslaved people seeking freedom in Canada.
