Join Heritage Conservation expert and architect Clinton Brown, FAIA at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village in an engaging session where we will explore how historic buildings and heritage places in our region reflect the stories and evolving character of the Niagara Frontier and its surrounding rural areas. Using examples of farm-related structures and community landmarks, this presentation weaves together local narratives, architectural history, and preservation techniques to demonstrate how our heritage places can foster community identity and continuity in the 21st century. You will leave with new insights into how the Niagara Frontier came to be, why its rural history is worth preserving, and the ways these places can help tell our personal stories today.

ABOUT CLINTON BROWN, FAIA:
Firm founder, historic preservation architect Clinton Brown, FAIA, is a graduate of The Nichols School, Franklin & Marshall College, the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies, and the University of Virginia School of Architecture. He has taught at the SUNY Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning and Willowbank School of Restoration Arts, and he is a frequent speaker about historic preservation and Main Street revitalization. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. Clinton Brown Company Architecture, pc, is a leading full service historic preservation, architecture, and grant services firm, which is driven to collaboratively design renewing historic buildings and heritage places to be better for everyone. CBCA nominated Buffalo’s Elmwood Historic District for listing in the National Register of Historic Places, one of the country’s largest historic districts. This is the genesis of his book, Olmsted’s Elmwood: The Rise, Decline and Renewal of Buffalo’s Parkway Neighborhood, A Model for America’s Cities, published by City of Light Publishing in 2022. The New York Governor appointed him to the Board that is overseeing the rehabilitation of the National Historic Landmark Richardson Olmsted Campus, the former Buffalo State Asylum. Successive Secretaries of the Interior have appointed him a Commissioner of the state-wide Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor Commission, an affiliate of the National Park Service. He is a Past Chair of the School of Restoration Arts at Willowbank in Queenston, Ontario, of which King Charles III is Patron. He is a member of the Vestry of Trinity Episcopal Church, Buffalo.
