For our Giving Tuesday Campaign, BNHV is building at least two new community gardens on our grounds. After the gardens are built with the help of volunteers, they will be open for visitors to explore and will be used in programming. BNHV also offers a wide variety of programs for adults and children which explore the history and continued importance of agriculture in New York.
“The gardens are really an enactment of our motto, ‘It Takes a Village’” says Executive Director Carrie Stiver. “They’ll be built with help from the community, and then we’ll use them to explore our relationships to the environment, food, and materials that we interact with every day.” Stiver notes that the museum plans to use one of the gardens to grow fiber plants, such as flax, to educate visitors on issues related to supply chains, manufacturing, and the impact of fast fashion on the environment.
