Hands on History: 19th Century Cooking Techniques

Are you interested in cooking? Come join our historic foodways interpreters as they teach you the techniques of cooking in our beehive bread oven!

Workshop Details

Learn about the history of mud ovens and open fire cooking techniques along with the types of yeast used in baking during the 19th century. Participants will experience 19th century baking in a traditional mud oven and open fire cooking to prepare traditional bread recipes. Participants will prepare potato yeast and traditional yeast breads.

Safety

Participants need closed toed shoes, cotton clothing and an apron. No synthetic materials. Please bring a container to take home your bread.

Due to concerns surrounding Covid-19, masks will be required during the workshop.

Cost

Registration fee is $50.00 for Non-Members and $45 for Members.
