A Full Day of Fun and Learning at BNHV!

Homeschool groups can sign up for a full day of programming, education, and fun at BNHV's Homeschool Days. 

Schedule of Sessions

Note: Please pick one program per time slot

 

 

Session 1: 10 AM - 10:50 AM

Victory Gardens
Ages 10 and Up

What are Victory Gardens? Why were they important? Are they still used today? Join our Deputy Director for Collections and Interpretation as she gives a behind the scenes tour of our Victory on the Menu: Food in the Fight exhibit. If time allows, plan out your own victory garden on paper and feel free to take some seeds home to start your own garden. 

 
Pioneer Crafts: Weave a Harvest Basket
Ages 6 and Up

With summer almost here, it will soon be time to start picking flowers and harvesting fruits and vegetables. Pioneers would have used baskets to carry their harvests from the field to the house. Using paper weaving, make your own harvest basket.

 

Design a Bug
Ages 4 and Up

Read the story Up in the Garden, Down in the Dirt, then take a walk and learn about the bugs that live here and their importance to the ecosystem. Use your knowledge to design your own bug out of modeling clay.

 

 

 

Session 2: 11 AM - 11:50 AM

Outdoor Art
Ages 5 and Up

Spring has sprung and Summer is almost upon us! Visit the village gardens and paint what you see.           

 
Let's Celebrate Juneteenth
Ages 8 and Up

June 19th is Juneteenth. What is Juneteenth? Join us in this programming session to find out and then make a confetti popper or two to celebrate the day.

 

 

 

12 PM - 12:50 PM

Lunch

All participants will get 50 minutes to enjoy lunch on the grounds. Please bring your own lunch from home. 

 

 

 

Session 3: 1 PM - 1:50 PM

Helping our Pollinators: Build a Bug Hotel
Ages 5 - 9

National Pollinator Week (June 21st-June 27th) is an annual celebration in support of pollinator health. It is a time to raise awareness for pollinators and spread the word about what we can do to protect them. Come learn about our important pollinators and build a bug hotel to take home for your backyard pollinators.

 
Pioneer Fun: Celebrate Fly a Kite Day
Ages 5 and Up

What did pioneer children do for fun? Flying a kite on a warm summer’s day has always been a favorite pastime. Make a kite and fly it in the Village Green.

 

 

 

Session 4: 2 PM - 2:50 PM

Helping our Pollinators: Build a Bug Hotel
Ages 10 and Up

Sun Bread 
Ages 5 and Up

Sun Bread, inspired by the book by Elisa Kleven, has become a Solstice (Winter and Summer) tradition for many. Learn about the Summer Solstice as we make some sun bread to share.

 

Stories and Crafts: "F is for Flag" 
Ages 5 and Up

Read the story F is for Flag to commemorate Flag Day and then make your own flag to take home and celebrate!
