Mary is Expecting!
It is with overwhelming joy that we announce Mary, our ewe, and Joe, our ram, are expecting a little bundle of joy this Spring.
Our sheep herd belongs to the Hog Island breed, a heritage breed in critical need of conservation. There are fewer than 200 in North America, according to annual registrations, and less than 2,000 in the entire global population. Therefore, you can see why we are so elated that Mary is expecting and why this little lamb will truly be so special.
Though we are closed to the public during this time, our Farmstead Team is still hard at work looking after our mama-to-be, as well as preparing for her lamb by constructing a birthing stable. This structure will provide comfortable, protective shelter for mama and baby until weaning.
We greatly look forward to the time when we can welcome you back to your Village and introduce you to Mary and Joe’s darling lamb. With the coming of this little ray of sunshine, there will surely be much joy to be had at BNHV this season.
