Past Traditions to Present Practice

Part of a Series on Traditional Ways and Means

 

 

 

This class will introduce you to the wonders and joys of Blacksmithing.

Class will be held Saturday, June 23rd and Sunday, June 24th from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.

Students will meet in the Blacksmith Shop at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village.

Students must wear work clothes with work boots. Please bring a lunch.

  • Shop Tour/Tool Introduction
  • Fire up the Forge
  • Tapers
  • Curves/Scrolls
  • “S” Hooks
  • Wall Hooks
  • Slit/Drift
  • Bottle Opener

Day 2

  • Welcome/Follow Up
  • Shop Safety
  • Different Steels/Uses
  • Fire up the Forge
  • Tool Making Introduction
  • Tong Making
  • Hold Fast/Hot Punch
  • Open Forge to Close

Non-Members $60.00; Members $50.00.

Limited to 8 persons. 16 years of age or older.
